Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 CinemaCon Trailer Teases More Adam Warlock Action

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is so close we can practically taste it–it lands in theaters next week! But Marvel did have one more teaser for the assembled audience of press and movie theater owners at CinemaCon on Wednesday.

The new trailer didn’t feature any major new spoilers or anything like that, but it did give us some new banter between Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and the alt-universe Gamora (Zoe Saldana)–who doesn’t know or like him–that they hang out with these days, along with some brand-new Adam Warlock action.

It began with some shots we’ve seen before–those very cool bits where the Guardians are suited up and doing a low-gravity bounce walk across a particularly fleshy surface of some kind. But that was followed by a new scene we haven’t seen before with Peter and Gamora.

Peter is, of course, still smitten with Gamora, but this Gamora doesn’t even know who he is really because she has no baggage about him at all from her universe.

“I know you don’t remember any of it, but you were everything to me,” Peter begs her. “I missed you so much and maybe if you open yourself up to it, there’s a possibility–“

“I don’t think so, Quinn,” Gamora interrupts.

“Quill,” Peter corrects her.

The punchline is then revealed: Star-Lord and Gamora were chatting over an open channel, and the other members of the Guardians were listening. Naturally, they fire off some jokes at Peter’s expense.

From there, CinemaCon attendees were treated to basically a remix of trailer scenes we’ve seen before, set to “In The Meantime” by Spacehog like the previous ads, with some occasional new bits: like new shots of Adam Warlock (Will Poulter) in flight near the end.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 lands in theaters on May 5, and it marks the end of director James Gunn’s time at Marvel now that he’s running DC Films with Peter Safran at Warner Bros. It took several more years for the third Guardians movie to come out than we expected, first because of Disney’s decision to fire James Gunn over old tweets before later re-hiring him, and then due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
